A new phenomenon is happening across the church in China: Chinese churches are organizing short-term training for lay leaders. While China now has 18 registered theological schools (seminaries and Bible schools) all located in capital cities of most of the provinces, the bulk of the theological training need is in the rural parts of China. To meet this need, pastors across China are opening up new “Bible Training Centers,” where lay people are trained for basic ministry skills. So far, China Partner has visited four of these rural Bible Training Centers. We believe this is where CP should concentrate its future ministry. The training of the younger emerging Christian leaders, who primarily come from poor rural areas of China need significant help. Most of these leaders will never have the opportunity to attend a regular Bible school or seminary. But each of them has the desire to be better equipped for ministry.
